Facilities: Our campus is set over a large site and comprises of nine classroom, cultural and performance, administration and workshop buildings. We also have a library and student services building and a school canteen.
From a cultural perspective, we have a very-well equipped music and drama facility, as well as a hall for staging productions – this is also where our award-winning school choir, Dunstanza, performs and practises. We also have a whare, where our students work on Kapa Haka, public speaking and debating.
Activities: Most of our students take part in organised sport or other activities after school, and on days when they’re free, they’ll either organise a healthy pursuit like mountain biking, bike jumps or a run, or use some of their leave entitlements to go to town or New World – as students get older and earn the right to more independence and freedom, their leave rights grow accordingly.
Boarding: One of the key aims of our Hostel is to make this transition from home life to hostel life, and from hostel life on to the next stage after high school education, as smooth and as beneficial as possible. The smaller nature of our hostel means that our staff can have a close relationship with each of our students, and we can quickly identify individual student needs and issues as they arise. We try to make the Hostel a home away from home for our students – a community where they can feel safe, be themselves, and gain a sense of belonging and independence – as well as an environment where students know they will have the support of staff to help them develop their personal values and learn skills they’ll need in the future, like collaboration, leadership and communication.
