Established in 2005, Hwa Chong International School (HCIS) is a member of the Hwa Chong family of schools. Sharing the same rich Hwa Chong heritage and legacy, HCIS is deeply rooted in tradition yet forward-thinking in purpose, empowering our students with character and global competencies to be individuals with impact.
Building on over two decades of educational excellence, HCIS offers a unique six-year integrated curriculum that eventually prepares students for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma at Year 6 (Grade 12). Widely known as a school that inculcates Asian values with a contemporary global outlook, HCIS prides itself on its value-add to student learning and holistic development. Every student has the opportunity to explore their passion while honing their unique strengths and talents. This is best exemplified in our School’s philosophy ‘Education for All, According to Each’.
Guided by our School Values — Honour, Empathy, Accountability, Respect, and Tenacity — HCIS fosters a dynamic environment where students learn to uphold integrity, care for others, take responsibility for their actions, value diverse perspectives, and persevere through challenges. These values shape not only their academic journey, but also their personal growth and development. Our caring school community, together with a rich array of programmes, ensures that every student receives strong support in academic pursuits, leadership opportunities, and character formation.
With our stellar performance in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) examinations, HCIS has an excellent track record of producing graduates who have gone on to pursue higher education in renowned universities.
Experiential Learning
HCIS offers a well-balanced and broad-based curriculum that includes learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Whether it’s through research projects, cultural exchanges, service learning, or artistic and athletic programmes, the education in HCIS not only provides students with a global outlook and mindset, but also nurtures in them essential values and lifelong skills that are needed to thrive in a complex world.
HCIS places a premium on experiential learning, where students put into practice what they learn. Students are exposed to a host of outdoor activities that stretches them and takes them out of their comfort zone. It is through these experiences that critical life skills like communication, teamwork, critical thinking, leadership and resilience are nurtured.
There is a wide range of Co-curricular Activities (CCA) that are offered in HCIS across Sports, Performing Arts, and Clubs and Societies, allowing students to explore multiple interests while discovering new passions. Through CCAs, students are provided with ample opportunities to shine while developing their confidence, time management and collaborative skills.
Boarding Life at HCIS
Conveniently located within the school compound, the HCIS Residence endeavours to create a unique home in a community-oriented environment where supportive staff and well-equipped facilities promote character development and diverse competencies of our boarding students beyond just academic success. Our mission is to inspire and promote personal growth, while nurturing international-mindedness in our boarders within a safe and caring community.
Our boarders will be assigned to Residence Mentors upon checking in at the HCIS Residence. The boarders are provided with the best quality of care by the Residence Mentors, who take on a close-knit approach to promote holistic development in the boarders. The HCIS Residence offers clean and meticulously maintained accommodation designed to provide comfort, safety, and functionality. Students have access to modern rooms with attached bathrooms, communal activity areas, cosy study spaces, and quality facilities that are regularly serviced and monitored.
A wide range of engaging activities are also organised in the Residence throughout the year. These may include festive celebrations, cooking, crafting or simply bonding over a barbecue session together. The boarders are also given opportunities to learn outside the classroom through different community services, such as clean-up drives and recycling activities.
The Boarding Council, elected by fellow boarders, provides leadership opportunities for students within the Residence. They plan and execute key events, gaining hands-on experience in organisation, communication, and teamwork. The Council is also involved in the Orientation Programme for new boarders, and works closely with the Residence Mentors to provide a meaningful and joyful boarding life for the boarders.
The HCIS Residence ensures a secure and enriching living environment conducive to both rest and academic focus. Our Residence brings together students from all around the world, creating a vibrant, multi-cultural community where friendships naturally flourish, building meaningful connections that last a lifetime.
