Boarding plays a central part in the life of the College, lending the school the energy, warmth and fun of a village community. The boarders in “Res”, our boarding house, form a close, supportive group of girls from all over Ireland, Europe, and the world.

Boarding at a Glance

• We offer 5 day and 7 day boarding to girls from J5 through 6th Year.
• One in five students at Alexandra College is a boarder.
• Boarders are actively encouraged to participate in the wide range of co-curricular activities available: sport, music, drama, debating, and more.
• Our boarders come to Alex from all over Ireland and the world, including France, Ukraine, Germany, China, Spain, Japan, Mexico, and more.
• Construction of our beautiful new Residence, the Hermione Building, at the heart of our campus was completed in August 2022.

Res Prefects: Res Prefects play an important part in the smooth running of the boarding house. As leaders in the boarding community, they are seen as role models for the girls and are entrusted with certain duties and responsibilities.

The Hermione Floors:
The Hermione has five floors of bedrooms and dorms. Each floor has a mix of year groups from 1st to 6th Year and is headed by one of the Residence staff. The floors have been named after prominent Alexandrans who have excelled in the fields of academia, sport, music, art, and drama. Res is designed this way not only to foster good integration of year groups and a sense of camaraderie amongst the girls, but also so that the girls take pride in Alex’s exceptional history and ethos.
